The Garden Room seems to wake early in August.
Golden sunshine streams through the open doors, warming the old wooden worktable long before the kettle begins to sing. Outside, the cottage garden has become 
wonderfully untidy in the most beautiful way. Hollyhocks stand proudly against the walls. Dahlias dance in every imaginable colour, and delicate cosmos sway gently in the warm afternoon breeze. Bees move busily from flower to flower while butterflies drift lazily above the borders, making the whole garden feel alive with movement.
This is a month of abundance.
The herbs are ready for gathering, seed heads begin to ripen, and every corner of the garden offers something to admire or preserve. Small bunches of lavender
hang drying from pegs inside The Garden Room. This fills the air with their familiar fragrance, while bowls of freshly gathered flowers wait patiently to become paintings, stitched designs and new creative projects.
August is also a month for wandering.
Beyond the garden gate, quiet country lanes lead to ancient castles, hidden gardens and peaceful villages where history lingers among old stone walls. Every visit
brings fresh inspiration. The texture of weathered stone, the colours of late summer flowers climbing ancient walls, and the stories carried through centuries. Sketchbooks quickly fill with ideas that later find their way onto miniature fabric panels, greetings cards and journal pages 
back in The Garden Room.
Perhaps this is why August feels so generous.
There is no rush.
The garden asks only that we pause for a while, notice the butterflies, collect a few seeds for next year, or simply enjoy a cup of tea beneath the warm afternoon sun. Creativity seems to arrive naturally at this time of year, often found in the smallest details. A faded petal pressed between the pages of a book, the graceful curve of a sunflower stem, or the soft colours of evening settling across the borders.
As summer slowly begins its gentle journey towards autumn, August reminds us to treasure these long, golden days. Every flower gathered, every sketch made and every stitch sewn becomes a little keepsake of the season, ready to be enjoyed long after the last sunflower has bowed its head.

On the Worktable this Month
This month the worktable is filled with sunshine.
Large jugs of cheerful sunflowers stand beside tiny posies of echinacea, cosmos and freshly picked herbs gathered from the garden. New miniature fabric panels celebrate beautiful places to visit, including Usk Castle and Tintagel Castle, where ancient stone walls meet colourful summer borders and centuries of history inspire fresh creative ideas.
Alongside them are two new miniature seed packet panels, Majestic Sunflowers and Healing Echinacea, celebrating some of the garden’s favourite late-summer flowers. They are designed to inspire slow stitching, card making, journal covers, bookmarks and all manner of handmade treasures.
The Summer Flowers Card Making Book remains open on the worktable too. Its colourful pages offering endless inspiration for cards, journals and paper crafting. Nearby, nature journals are gradually filling with pressed flowers, colour notes and sketches gathered during August walks. While new British bird designs continue to emerge between cups of tea and quiet afternoons spent watching the garden from the open doorway.
As always, the greatest inspiration comes from the garden itself.
