November – Preparing for Christmas

A note from the Garden Room

November arrives with crisp mornings, misty skies and the last of the autumn leaves clinging to the trees. The garden is becoming quieter now, its summer abundance giving way to bare branches, seed heads and the rich russet colours of late autumn. There is a different sort of beauty in the garden at this time of year, and a certain pleasure in watching the seasons slowly change.

Inside the Garden Room, however, things are becoming decidedly busier!Snowman Christmas Card - 10 or 20 Card Packs - Quality Christmas Cards

Christmas is beginning to find its way onto the worktable. Sketchbooks and paints are out, and new festive ideas are taking shape. I’ve been spending time turning some of my designs into Christmas cards, bringing together traditional colours, familiar seasonal characters and a little touch of whimsy. Robins, snowmen, holly, winter flowers and festive woodland scenes are all finding their way into my latest creations.

Designs that have been quietly developing in my imagination begin to take shape as cards, fabric and little treasures for the Christmas season. I’m also thinking about new autumnal fabric designs, with rich colours, botanical details and patterns inspired by the changing countryside.Lincoln Christmas Card - Quality Christmas Card

Knitting continues to occupy a good deal of my time too. My colourful snoods are growing in number, each one a little different, combining interesting yarns, wonderful textures and unexpected splashes of colour. There is something wonderfully comforting about sitting with a basket of yarn and watching a new creation emerge, stitch by stitch. The knitted bags and cushions are also being gathered together, ready to become part of the growing collection of creative knitwear.

The worktable is a happy jumble of wool, ribbons, papers, fabric and half-finished ideas. A cup of tea is never far away, and as the afternoons grow darker, the little lamps and candles make the room feel especially welcoming.

November is a month for gathering ideas, making plans and enjoying the simple pleasure of creating something by hand. Outside, the garden is preparing for its winter rest. Inside, the Garden Room is already dreaming of Christmas.

And so, with colourful yarns, festive designs and plenty of new ideas waiting to be explored, another chapter unfolds.

This month I’m continuing to develop my Christmas card designs, exploring new fabric ideas and adding to my collection of knitted snoods, bags and cushions. There are always several projects on the go at once, and I ratherTwelve Days of Christmas Fabric Scraps Pack : 10 Mini Fabric Squares like it that way. One idea invariably leads to another, and the worktable is rarely tidy for very long!
